Portrait of a Flower
2022
Paper cut
The flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow dies;
All that we wish to stay
Tempts and then flies.
What is this world's delight?
Lightning that mocks the night,
Brief even as bright.
- Mutability ["The flower that smiles to-day"], Percy Bysshe Shelley
This series is the result of a close study of a collection of individual flowers. Framed in a specimen-like manner, it is a nod to the scientific method and study of botanicals; an attempt to preserve what is short-lived. Each flower is presented independently and not as part of an ensemble, giving attention to every last detail.
This series has been sold at the SOJAO art pop-up in March 2022.
